Valentine’s Day Dining in Doha

Planning for Valentine’s Day can be somewhat stressful.  Granted, I’m a bona fide stress bag with a penchant for dramatic panic, but I think many can empathise with my anxieties in this case.

I love roast turkey.  Wait, that’s not nearly emphatic enough.  I LOVE turkey… triple exclamation point.  Which means Thanksgiving for me is like bacon wrapped chocolate with ice cream and double maraschino cherries.

Ramadan in Doha 2016

The Muslim month of Ramadan is such a special time of year to be living in the Gulf. Set aside the conspicuous logistical changes of shortened working hours, smoother traffic and modesty restrictions to ensure public decorum. For me, it’s about the spirit of reflection and unity born from the rituals of this holy period.

These two factors alone endear me to any restaurant in Doha.  And when the food is actually good, then that’s just Christmas in June.

Feeling Sabai at Sabai Thai Doha

Few cities in the world depend so heavily on hotels as much as Doha. These properties are major players in town; they employ thousands of highly visible hospitality professionals, manage royal functions for visiting dignitaries, and more pertinently to me, feed the city’s rapacious diners.

A Taste of Spring

For all the years I’ve lived in Doha, this is the first time I’m experiencing a proper spring. The winter months usually end so precipitously that we go from scarves to shorts overnight, moaning about the searing heat of summer.
